Dole Plantation

The Dole Plantation was fun.  I didn't realize how many types of things they grow there.
We took a train tour.  A train kind of like those at Bay Beach but didn't corner nearly as fast.  I could walk faster than that train took the corners.  It wasn't really worth the price of the ride but it was interesting.  Here are star fruit.
This pineapple is probably 6-8 inches tall.  These were planted out in the courtyard for everyone to see.  So cute!
Bananas growing in their natural state.
On the tour we saw several fields of pineapples in various stages of growth.  These were larger and probably closer to being picked.
These are much smaller and have a long way to go before ripeness.
Sugar cane and avocados were some of the other things grown on this plantation.
In this "turn around" spot I noticed that all of the foliage was planted in the shape of pineapples.
This is one of my favorite types of palm trees.  It is a Fijian fan palm.  I understand why it is called a fan.  Those are the types you see in the movies where the young boy is fanning some royal.
Something I didn't know about palms is how the new growth comes.  The brownish stuff at the bottom looks like dead leaves but rather it is the new growth.
Their store had everything under the sun "pineapple" and everything was really pricey.  I don't need to go back there again.
