DIY

I painted my kitchen several years ago.  I wanted a warm color and picked one out.  The guy at the store said it would make the room look darker so I opted for a shade lighter than I had chosen.  I brought the paint home and started the job.  Immediately I didn't really care for the color.  But it was better than the cream color that was on the ceiling and walls along with the cream colored counter tops.  So, some color wasn't all bad.
This summer I decided it was time to change it up.  I wanted to change the color I had put on the walls several years back.  I chose a gray for the three walls that have cupboards.  I chose a bright blue for the other wall.  I love how it turned out.  Under the upper cabinets is just so dark so I decided that I would really love a tile backsplash.  We went with a subway tile as its white and I didn't think it would ever be something that people say, "Oh, that's so dated."  Big deal if they do.
The finished product is even better than I hoped for.  I got rid of most of my canisters and rearranged things on the counter.  I've got some work space and less clutter.  I've since changed up my canisters too.
This was my first time grouting tile.  A bit tedious but not difficult.  We liked the tile so much that we decided to put some up in the bathroom above the sink.  We used glass tile there and I love it too.  The problem was that once the tile was up, the walls didn't really match so I had to tweak the paint.  I painted the chair rail white and put the same gray from the kitchen below it.  It turned out great as well.  I also painted the hamper white so add some light to the room since I darkened it a bit with the gray paint.

Between all those projects, I also painted Andrew's bedroom.  I really wanted to ditch the carpet in there.  After pulling it up we discovered hardwood.  Unfortunately my mother painted over it with a nice oil based paint.  We rented a sander but there was no way that we could ever get the paint out of cracks between the boards.  So much work would go into it that we just bought a laminate wood floor and installed it.  Looks great!  Now on to the porch!

President Palmer Letter

We got the following letter in the mail today.  It made my day brighter.  This was certainly happy mailbox day.
